![]() ![]() Other pedals tinkered with depth and also feedback controls, which Electro-Harmonix called “Color” on the Small Stone. The Phase 90 didn’t have anything beyond a rate control utilizing a fixed depth (to great effect) and four stages. You end up hearing a sweeping phase cancellation. But the interesting thing about the phaser is that by definition, the “depth” element of a phaser usually corresponds to the depth of a series of all-pass filters (the number of which is referred to as “stages”), which is then animated with a rate control. The Maxon is the cream of the crop in symbiosis of all the best and essential parts of phase shifting.Īny effect utilizing an LFO (low-frequency oscillator, the motion component of any modulation effect) is composed of two core parts the frequency (modulation speed) and the amplitude (modulation depth). ![]() And while options like waveforms, envelope control and step sequencing are good fun, above all, we want a phaser to excel at one thing: cyclically shifting the phase. The simplicity of a good phaser is always one of its strongest suits. This perhaps culminated in the Vintage Series, and with it, the PH-350 Rotary Phaser. It sounded excellent.Īcross all the lines and counting the Ibanez equivalents, Maxon has always produced top-notch effects. I personally have only seen and played just one (the DS-F1 Distortion). When was the last time you heard anyone talking about their Fire Blade series Auto Filter (besides Josh Scott)? And the Auto Filter wasn’t one of three or four there were eight Fire Blade series pedals in all. These lines range from the mundane to the “this could only have come from Japan” sort. In fact, Maxon has released ten wholly separate pedal lines, including many that some players have never heard of, and that’s not including the multitude of nonstandard Maxon boxes such as the Flying Pan and Jetlyzer, or collaborations with other companies. Of course, everyone knows the 9-series as well, but while most Americans think the Maxon name faded out and then returned, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Maybe you’ve heard of those 808-series Ibanez pedals. Hoshino Gakki Co, under the brand name Ibanez, licensed Maxon’s 808-series circuits for its line. Maxon has been in the manufacturing business for longer than one might think, having actually designed all the pedals in the original Ibanez line. Knowing Maxon’s track record, this is definitely in accordance with tradition. And even when I was working in half the music stores in Portland, I laid eyes on less than half of them. Outside of “the delay” and “the overdrive,” many players knew nothing about the entire line. What many people don’t know is that there were eight pedals in this series, all of them absolutely exceptional. The two heavy hitters of this series are and were the AD-900 (along with the AD-999 and AD-999 Pro, two souped-up versions), and the OD-820, once thought as nearly equal to a Klon Centaur in tone and topology. ![]() This “vintage series” was packaged in a very distinct cast and sloped enclosure and was double the width of Maxon’s normal offerings. You may recognize this pedal as an afterthought to much popular devices in the same series of devices. Today, that pedal is the Maxon PH-350 the finest phaser ever created. Sometimes though, we have to give credit where credit is due and acknowledge an exemplary unit, one that sits atop the genre. We’ve covered the Seamoon Funk Machine and the Coron Phaser 55-hardly the best examples in their classes, but canonical footnotes of ingenuity. And as is normally the case with technology, the first commercially available product, while undeniably inspirational, isn’t always the finest example in retrospect. We’ve talked a lot about vintage offerings here at Cabinet HQ, mostly for the purpose of illustrating history. ![]()

These verses, combined with the biblical knowledge that God placed all our sin on Jesus at the cross, prove that Jesus had to go to hell after His death on the cross in order to fulfill the eternal mission God had for Him. Death became part of our lives through the sin Adam and Eve committed, courtesy of Satan as the serpent, so Jesus had to go to the “lower parts of the earth” to fulfill all things for us for salvation before rejoining God in heaven.Īcts 2:31 also discusses Jesus in hell, mentioning that “His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.” This clarifies that even though Jesus went to hell, He didn’t remain there like others but accomplished His mission there and was brought back to heaven. So, if Jesus was to go to the grave, which He did for three days before His resurrection, death is considered the grave and where hell can be found. ![]() He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.” ![]() In Ephesians 4:9-10, it is stated that if Jesus ascended, He must “also first descended into the lower parts of the earth. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” This gives a glimpse to the fact of what Jesus’s mission was in hell and how He was successful in it. ![]() One clear Scripture that details Jesus going to hell can be found in Revelation 1:18: “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Now with Jesus’ ministry and sacrifice, entrance into heaven wasn’t based on what rituals and rules you followed, but whether you accepted what Jesus did on the cross and that salvation through Him eternally changed you. However, the Bible outlines several times, both in the Old and New Testaments, that a savior was to be born on Earth as an embodiment of God, to die for our sins, and to connect us back to God after the Fall of Adam and Eve had separated us.Īfter Adam and Eve sinned, believers had to follow rituals and rules in order to be pleasing to God and have the blessing of going to heaven. Many may question why God the Father would turn His back on helping His only Son enduring sin, especially when it is clear God’s love was in and through Jesus. The idea also may have generated from Scripture where Jesus, while hanging on the cross, cries out to God about why He has forsaken Him ( Matt. Not exactly Scripture, these words are to be guidance to believers on confessing their faith in Jesus and understanding the key doctrines of the Christian faith. The first mention of Jesus descending to hell was found in a later form of the Apostles’ Creed, which is considered the Christian church’s oldest creed of the basic doctrines regarding the Christian faith, dating as far back as AD 140. The Bible clearly states the reasons why Jesus made the momentous trip to hell and how this shows even more the love of Jesus to bring us to God once again. Instead of the punishment of hell forever for our sins, we now have the one and only way back to a thriving relationship with God the Father.īut why would Jesus have to go to hell to make this connection happen? With Him being the Son of God, would going to hell be required to save people? Scriptures have revealed that Jesus did in fact go to hell after being crucified on the cross, with the goal to get the keys (control) of Hades from Satan and establish the bridge for people to return to God after repenting of their sins. Why would Jesus go to hell if He was sent by God to die for our sins and was to be resurrected on the third day to return to heaven? Couldn’t He just hover in paradise like the saints of the faith, waiting for the day God claimed the Earth again? When the question comes up on whether Jesus went to hell after the crucifixion, several may scratch their heads in confusion. ![]() ![]() And it’s packed with enough depth of flavor to shine. It is so approachable at 125 proof that it could easily be enjoyed as the flagship of the Barton lineup. On its own merits, 1792 Full Proof is probably closer to what 1792 should have been from the start. And it does still leave room for Barton to eventually jump in with both feet and release a true unfiltered barrel proof variation perhaps as a gift-shop exclusive. It’s a tasty bourbon, and very different from most of the other high proof variations on the market. Indeed, the “Full Proof” label probably tends to lead drinkers in the wrong direction with that, as it’s really just “barreling proof,” not “barrel proof,” as most will likely assume by reading the label and not reading the back panel.īut taking a more objective approach, my overall impressions are very positive. SynopsisĪgain, If I had not come into this tasting expecting a straight-from-the-barrel experience, my first taste would have been much better. I wouldn’t say this is a particularly viscous mouthfeel, but it’s not thin, so it’s certainly not a major negative. The finish is average in length, and starts with the cocoa flavors, but that fades quickly into a spicy rye and cinnamon red hot sensation across the tongue. This is a good case for tasting bourbon blind. I found that in that case, I didn’t feel like it was a short finish, only that it was shorter than other barrel proof bourbons. But the second time through, I tried not to compare this to the straight-from-the-barrel 1792 I’d tried a couple years ago, and instead taste it on its own merit. The first time through, I thought the finish was a little disappointing. ![]() ![]() And then, as reported by a few other tasters, there’s a definite punch of something like powdered cocoa right at the back of the palate that is exceptionally pleasing. But the caramel doesn’t fully develop to the mid palate, instead giving way to more sweet and spicy notes like cloves and brown sugar. On the tongue, there is an initial hit of cinnamon and spice, with a note of caramel as well. Just drink it like you would any other 100 proofer, and you won’t be disappointed. There’s really no ramp up to this at all. Unlike a lot of other higher proof bourbons, this doesn’t smack you in the face with overt alcohol and ethanol. There are a lot of sweet notes here, reminding me of savory bakery items like coffee cake, cinnamon rolls, and icing. But there is a lot of complexity going on nonetheless. There aren’t a ton of oak aromas, but then again, this is probably in the 7 year range, so I wouldn’t expect it to smell like a long-aged bourbon. There’s plenty of caramel and a hint of vanilla immediately on the nose. *Edit: According to reports, this is not chill filtered, but passed through plate and frame filters. It’s obvious this has seen some filtering. Appearanceĭark and brown, but very clear. The “full proof” is denoted above the standard 1792 label. This comes in the standard 1792 cordial-like wide, short bottle with gold cap. ◾Age: Not Stated (8 1/2 years according to literature) Still, it’s the standard Barton recipe containing a slightly higher rye-to-barley proportion of 15:10. It’s no doubt filtered, and therefore slightly lower in proof than a true barrel proof. It’s proofed down to the original barrel proof- the proof of the distillate that went into the barrel, not the proof at which it came out. Now, for those of you checking at home, it does, in fact, seem odd to get a nice round number on all these if it’s truly barrel proof. It is 62.5% Alcohol by Volume, which makes out to 125 proof, if my math serves. This is a non-age stated version of 1792 (Formerly Ridgemont Reserve). ![]() Since then, a number of us from that group have inquired with Barton, hinted, and generally debased ourselves begging the powers that be in Bardstown to release a barrel proof version of 1792 to the public. It was deep and rich, and completely outshined my flask of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, another personal favorite. While there, we were allowed to draw whiskey from an 8 year old “Sweetheart” barrel (Barreled on Valentine’s Day in 2006) and taste it in the welcome center. ![]() In February of 2014, I had the good fortune to attend a media tour of the Barton 1792 Distillery with a number of other bloggers, writers, podcasters, and general bourbon know-it-alls. This lack of real functionality is one thing I've seen in far too many apps on Wear OS. ![]() You can't even start a round from it because rounds have to be started on the phone barring a standalone mode that isn't available yet. If you're not actively playing a round, it doesn't display much of anything. It just shows the course you're currently on and your overall score. Speaking of unhelpful, the GolfPad Tile that you can add to the right of your watch face is just about useless. You shouldn't have to pull out the phone for the first three shots, then maybe use the watch once you're within range of the green. Seeing that the green is 300 or 400 yards on a Par 5 with a water hazard isn't helpful at all unless you're on a straight hole with no large hazards. What GolfPad really needs to add - and has not announced plans to add - is a way to see distances to hazards and where you can reasonably hit the ball. GolfPad says that club tracking is coming soon, eliminating the current need to add the clubs afterward, along with a standalone mode. The lack of map also makes the "Position Flag" option on the watch completely useless, as it drops the flag where you're standing rather than down the hole where you're trying to hit.Īfter playing two rounds with the app installed, my dad definitely felt the missing features here. Given that there are four tiles worth of options to the right of the main screen for each hole, it's odd that you can't get even a basic map of the hole on one of them. And because you can't see a map or tap it for ideal shot distances, that's one to three more times you'll need to pull out the phone per hole. There's no way to view a course on the watch, nor can you figure out how far you need to hit safely away from hazards or where the course turns. This means you'll still be pulling out your phone at least once every hole, in fact, probably more than once.Ī lack of a map turns GolfPad's watch app into an afterthought. It can't track golf clubs, so if you add shots on the watch, you have to go back and add which club you used while you're walking between holes or waiting for the group ahead to clear the fairway. However, the GolfPad Wear OS app can only keep score right now. He could start the round, look at the app when he needed more information, then swap to the watch for adding shots and putts as he went through each round. On the Galaxy Watch 4, that's not the case. ![]() With previous watches, GolfPad had to be pinned and open on the phone the whole game. I'm going to preface this by saying that my dad has been using GolfPad for well over a year, and he's often had issues with the app when it comes to app pinning and exiting app pinning when he needs to access another app. Source: Ara Wagoner / Android Central (Image credit: Source: Ara Wagoner / Android Central) ![]() ![]() ![]() It’s this that appears to account for the difference in size between Intel and M1 Mac updates.īig Sur’s Signed System Volume also plays a part. There’s another quirk too: although the main body of each update, at least 2 GB, is common to both Intel and Apple Silicon architectures, and can be delivered from a Content Caching Server, just over 900 MB has to be downloaded individually to each Apple Silicon Mac at the start of every update, and can’t be cached locally. Executable code doesn’t make up the majority of the system or its updates, but is a substantial proportion. It also means that each update is a Universal binary, containing a complete set of executable code to run native on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. Those for Intel Macs amount to more than 600 MB, and that for M1 models must also be substantial, and regardless of which model you’re going to update, the download contains a complete set. Coupled with its policy that only macOS updates can contain firmware updaters, it means that each has to contain a complete set of firmware updates for all supported models. One policy which has led to the inexorable growth in the size of macOS updates is that each is universal: Apple only releases one update, which has to install and update all Macs supported by that version of macOS. So how come it’s necessary to download 2.2-3.1 GB and wait 15 minutes for ‘preparing’ of the update? While this is definitely an interesting addition, I’m not sure there’s a situation where I’d want to control a touchscreen device with a controller that’s imitating a mouse. Some of the buttons' default actions change, too, allowing you to simulate a left and right mouse click, as well as quickly adjust device volume and control media playback. This displays a mouse cursor on the device’s screen and allows you to move it around using the left analog stick. The only meaningful difference I found when paired to an Android device is that you can enter a “Multimedia Function” mode by pressing the mouse button on the controller twice. The fourth profile is technically reserved for only Android devices (as indicated by two LED lights illuminated and a green ring around the large hexagonal button in the center of the controller). The only downside is that you’ll need to remember which device is associated with which LED light as there’s no companion app you can use to manage your stored devices. Swapping between each profile is a breeze as you can toggle between each one using the Bluetooth button on the face of the controller, and a combination of three LED lights indicates which profile is currently selected. It features four built-in wireless profiles that allow you to quickly bounce between devices without having to unpair and re-pair the controller each time.
